Since its founding in 1854 as a tea wholesaler in Uji, Kyoto—Japan’s famed tea-producing region—”Nakamura Tokichi Honten” has steadfastly nurtured the nation’s tea culture for over a century.
Today, you can experience the spirit and flavor of this long-established tea house in Ginza, Tokyo, at the “Nakamura Tokichi Ginza Store” (hereafter referred to as “Nakamura Tokichi Ginza”).
The ingredients used here are carefully selected and delivered directly from Kyoto. Each dish featuring matcha or hōjicha (roasted green tea) showcases the skill and heritage of master tea artisans.
A legacy of over 100 years of pride and aesthetic sensibility is infused into every cup and every dish at Nakamura Tokichi Ginza.

Exquisite sweets made with three types of matcha
With locations in Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo, Nakamura Tokichi brings its tea traditions to major cities across Japan. Of the two Tokyo stores, only the Ginza branch inside the GINZA SIX commercial complex offers a serene space to enjoy tea in comfort and style.
At the Ginza location, you’ll also find exclusive menu items available nowhere else—chief among them is the ever-popular “Premium Maruto Parfait.”
This luxurious parfait is made with the finest Uji matcha.

“別製まるとパフェ,” Premium Maruto Parfait 2,500 JPY (tax included)
The term “Premium” (bessei in Japanese) used in the Premium Maruto Parfait refers to a designation given only to specially prepared, high-quality tea leaves.
The matcha used in this parfait is made from tencha (tea leaves for matcha) that has been carefully cultivated over a year and hand-picked. The umami and aroma of these carefully selected tea leaves create a depth of flavor truly worthy of the “Premium” name.

Premium Maruto Parfait
The parfait features three distinct types of matcha, each with its own unique character.
The matcha powder sprinkled on top offers a refined bitterness and briskness that gently unfold with each bite.
The matcha whipped cream, sweet and smooth, is paired with tart berries hidden within—adding a bright contrast to the layered flavors.
At the very bottom is a rich, umami-packed matcha sauce—carefully placed to leave a lasting impression even after the final spoonful.

In addition to berries, various toppings are used including shiratama (rice flour dumplings) and matcha chiffon cake
The delicately layered elements inside the glass are visually stunning—even from the side—making this parfait a feast for the eyes as well as the palate.
From the arrangement of toppings to the precise balance of matcha, every detail is designed so that each spoonful offers a new and delightful flavor experience.
The changing textures and tastes keep things exciting right up to the very last bite.
Rich matcha bean paste takes the flavor to a new level
Another Ginza-exclusive dish is the “Tea Jelly (Fukamidori).”

“生茶ゼリイ(深翠) ドリンクセット,” Tea Jelly (Fukamidori) + Drink 2,900 JPY (tax included)
The jelly has a unique texture—chewy yet delicate enough to break smoothly with each bite.
Its subtle sweetness allows the deep flavor and aroma of matcha to take center stage.
The special matcha bean paste, made exclusively for the Ginza location, adds richness and depth to the overall flavor.
It’s served alongside intensely aromatic matcha ice cream, giving you the freedom to mix and match for a variety of flavor experiences.

The matcha ice cream in the Tea Jelly (Fukamidori)
The recommended way to enjoy it at the Ginza location is to first savor the jelly on its own, letting the pure flavor of matcha fully unfold on your palate.
Then, little by little, try pairing it with the sweet matcha bean paste or the matcha ice cream to discover your own ideal flavor balance.
The real charm of the dish lies in experiencing how the taste of matcha gradually evolves as sweetness is added with each bite.

The Tea Jelly (Fukamidori) is also available with a drink set offering 3 choices
Finishing the meal with the matcha in the drink set leaves a calming, lingering impression.
Not just matcha—savor the deep, roasted flavor of hojicha too
The “Kyo no Fukiyose (Medley)” is the perfect choice for those who want to enjoy not only matcha, but also the warm, toasty flavor of hojicha.
The plate features sponge cakes in both matcha and hojicha varieties. Each sponge cake bite is soft and airy, with a fragrant tea aroma that lingers pleasantly.

Then there’s the matcha financier—packed with deep, concentrated matcha flavor.
It has a satisfying sweetness that’s perfectly balanced by the subtle bitterness of the matcha, creating a rich and well-rounded finish.

The matcha financier can also be purchased at the shop counter
The accompanying matcha ice cream is a treat on its own—lightly sweet with a rich aroma that reminds you just how good matcha can be. Pair the whipped cream and Ginza-exclusive matcha bean paste with the sponge cake or financier for an even more indulgent bite.
Part of the fun is experimenting as you go, finding your favorite flavor combinations one spoonful at a time.

The Kyo no Fukiyose (Medley) offers a well-balanced mix of deep matcha flavor and the toasty finish of roasted hojicha—each with its own distinct charm.
It’s a dessert that feels like a reflection of Kyoto’s gentle seasons, capturing a variety of tastes in perfect harmony.
Matcha techniques passed down for over 100 years
Carefully crafted sweets delight both the eyes and the palate with their delicate flavors—truly memorable treats. But the charm of Nakamura Tokichi Ginza goes beyond just taste.
It’s the sense of a long-standing tradition, passed down through generations, that truly supports the refined flavors found here.

Matcha is a gift of nature. Depending on the year’s climate and growing conditions, taste and aroma subtly change.
That’s why the art of gōgumi—blending different varieties and origins of matcha to create the perfect balance—is essential to delivering a consistent taste every time.
Gogumi is a true craft, a skill honed over countless hours and passed down through generations. These time-honored skills—refined over centuries—make it possible to enjoy the taste of Kyoto’s tea in the heart of Tokyo.
