Enjoy Kichijoji’s Nightlife: HOME PLANET, a Cultural Hub for Encounters

Kichijōji is a part of Tokyo that defies simple description, offering countless layers of charm. And HOME PLANET is a venue that seems to embody everything this multifaceted neighborhood has to offer.

This lively bar features an impressive array of drinks, including mezcal, alongside a rotating lineup of DJ events and special dishes created by guest chefs. It’s a place brimming with unique experiences, ready to surprise you each time you visit.

Exterior of HOME PLANET

Inside, you’ll find shelves filled with cassette tapes and used records, from both Japan and overseas. The atmosphere defies categorization, resisting the urge to be pigeonholed into a single genre or theme.

Yet, despite this eclectic mix, there’s not a hint of compromise in anything at HOME PLANET. Everything here is carefully curated, down to the smallest detail.

Signature drinks, including some you can buy

Step inside, and you’ll immediately notice the shelves lined with bottles of all kinds. From mezcal and Japanese shochu to sake, natural wines, and craft beers, there are about 20 varieties to choose from at any given time. It’s easy to find a drink that perfectly suits your mood.

Some of the drink menu items are also available for purchase

Beyond alcohol, you’ll also find pour-over coffee, herbal teas, and Chinese teas. The coffee beans come from Mihoshi Roastery, a specialty producer of naturally farmed, high-quality beans—another sign of HOME PLANET’s dedication to excellence.

Organic white rice cooked in a traditional hagama pot

While you’re welcome to drop by for just a drink, the food here is equally enticing. Originally launched as a catering service, HOME PLANET has since evolved into a destination for thoughtful, delicious food.

A variety of small plates are served, including gyoza and chilled tofu

One standout is the “Kayamori Farm Rice Freshly Cooked in a Hagama Pot.” The rice is cultivated using a sustainable method that leverages the natural properties of phytic acid secreted by rice roots, promoting both environmental and human health.

Each grain is tender and full of flavor, with a subtle sweetness and umami that unfolds as you chew.

Enjoy it plain to appreciate the pure flavor of the rice, or try it with their “Grandma Kikui’s Sun-Dried Umeboshi,” a natural umeboshi (brined and preserved plums) sold at the bar. These plums are thick and juicy, and offer a perfect balance of mellow sweetness and gentle tang.

They also sell an additive-free kura-dashi miso with a rich, lingering flavor—crafted the old-fashioned way by artisans who devote time and care to each batch.

Guest chef specials: a rare culinary treat

Depending on when you visit, you might be lucky enough to experience a guest chef’s special dish. During our visit, the featured items were simple shoyu ramen and tsukemen.

One sip of the broth reveals a gentle sweetness and a rich, savory flavor that carries hints of smokiness. Made with a base of chicken bones, green onions, and umeboshi (a rare ingredient for ramen), the soup has a clean, refreshing finish. Each sip builds in complexity, inviting you to drink down to the last drop.

Guest chef nights happen about once a week and always bring something new to the table. No matter who’s cooking, there’s a sense of excitement in discovering what’s in store.

A cultural hotspot in the heart of Kichijoji

More than just a bar, HOME PLANET is a place where food, drink, records, and events all come together—an ever-changing space where Kichijoji’s culture thrives.

It’s a perfect choice for a meal, to stock up on natural foods, or to dive deep into the creative scene of this vibrant neighborhood.

Inside HOME PLANET

With its diverse appeal, HOME PLANET draws people with different interests—creating new encounters you won’t find anywhere else.

“We want to create a space where people who meet here can spark something fun together.”

This spirit might just become part of Kichijoji’s cultural DNA, adding to the distinctive feel of the neighborhood itself.
