In today’s social media-driven world, the visual appeal of food has become a crucial factor in a restaurant’s popularity.
“Hamburger Steak and Omurice Shop Ikura Shibuya” (hereafter referred to as “Ikura Shibuya”) reflects this modern trend. The restaurant has quickly become popular after opening in June 2024, thanks to its Instagram-worthy dishes.

Popular Fukuoka restaurant brings live cooking to Shibuya
This is the first Tokyo location of the Fukuoka-based Hamburger Steak and Omurice Shop Ikura, which specializes in hambāgu (also known as hamburger steak) and omurice (fluffy egg omelet wrapped around seasoned fried rice, also known as “omelet rice” in English).
The original location is famous for long lines of customers, so it’s no surprise that the Shibuya branch gained media attention immediately after opening.

Visitors come for the food, of course, but also to enjoy the exciting live cooking process up close.
A huge teppan (iron plate grilling surface) is installed right in front of the counter seats, so watching the omelets being made is a must-see!
The omelets are made with plenty of fresh cream in the egg mixture, giving them a rich, sweet flavor. It’s a race against time to ensure the omelets remain soft and creamy without overcooking.
Using two spatulas, the chefs skillfully shape the omelets—a true display of craftsmanship. Don’t miss it!
There are two types of hamburger steak to go with the omelet, with the “Premium Hamburger omelet rice” being the recommended option.
This dish uses coarsely ground wagyū (beef sourced from specific Japanese cattle breeds) to retain the meat’s texture.
Before grilling, the patties are coated in breadcrumbs to lock in the juices, adding a crispy exterior and a delightful texture contrast.
For an additional 200 JPY (tax included), you can add a cheese topping, which is highly recommended. The creamy, mild cheese enhances the flavor, making each bite even richer. The melted cheese also provides a smooth, velvety texture that is irresistible.
You can choose from four different sauces, with the most popular being the demi-glace. This sauce is made by simmering vegetables, giving it a sweet and refreshing flavor.
Other sauce options include “HAKATA mentaiko cream sauce,” “Black curry,” and ketchup.
The HAKATA mentaiko cream sauce—referring to mentaiko, spicy marinated pollock roe, and Hakata, a downtown ward of Fukuoka and an alternate name for the city itself—is a unique creation of this Fukuoka-born restaurant.
Featuring mentaiko which Fukuoka is famous for, it’s topped with refreshing shiso leaves to balance the rich creaminess. The subtle spiciness of the mentaiko blends perfectly with the other ingredients, creating an exceptional sauce.

Ikura Shibuya’s omurice is hearty and satisfying!
The dish starts with a base of rice topped with a hamburger steak, followed by sauce and an omelet, and finished with a paw-shaped branding iron.
After adding the adorable paw print, there’s one more Instagram-worthy moment! When you cut into the omelet with a knife, the soft, semi-cooked eggs flow out.
Beneath the omelet is a thick 100% wagyu hamburger steak. Despite the playful appearance, this dish is quite filling.
Combining the special demi-glace sauce, cheese topping, butter rice, hamburger steak, and omelet in one bite results in a perfect harmony of sweetness and umami—simply delicious! The omelet is creamy, and the hamburger steak is juicy.
Each ingredient is richly flavored, yet the overall taste is balanced and not too heavy, showcasing the restaurant’s dedication to customer satisfaction.
Enhance your meal with corn potage
Another highly recommended item at Ikura Shibuya is the corn potage. The vibrant pink peppercorns add a splash of color to the soup’s pale golden hue.

The smooth soup has a sweet and rich flavor. With every sip, the sweet flavors of corn and fresh cream envelop your senses.
In summer, they serve it chilled, while in winter, it’s served hot—a delightful seasonal twist.
Pairing the corn potage with the Premium Hamburger omelet rice makes the meal even more satisfying.
Not just for trend-conscious young people, Ikura Shibuya also attracts gourmet food lovers with its dedication to quality.
Be prepared for a wait on weekends, but it’s definitely worth it!
