The top 3 popular miso soups at MISOJYU in Asakusa

One reason MISOJYU has gained popularity as a miso soup specialty shop is its unique selection of miso soups unlike anything you’ve seen before.

One standout dish from the menu is their “TOMATO & BEEF MISO POT-AU-FEU.” This soup, particularly popular among women, is a fusion of French pot-au-feu (a beef and vegetable stew) and Japanese miso soup.

What’s different from typical miso soup is the use of fond (de veau), a broth made from veal shank commonly used in French cuisine. Additionally, it features a whole tomato, which is rarely used in miso soup.

It also contains beef shank simmered until tender and vegetables like potatoes, making it very satisfying.

The onigiri at the restaurant are also quite unique.

In many shops, onigiri have the ingredients hidden within the rice, making it difficult to see what they contain. However, MISOJYU’s onigiri showcase the ingredients on the outside, adding visual appeal. The colorful appearance makes you want to take a photo and share it on social media.

One popular option is the “Spicy tuna,” a hit not only among Japanese customers but also with international diners as well.

What’s covering the tuna and mayonnaise is none other than chili sauce! The spicy taste added to the mildness of the tuna results in a bold flavor combination.

The “Spicy cod roe & Cream cheese” onigiri which combines the salty kick of mentaiko (spicy cod roe) with the creamy richness of cheese, is also quite popular.

This onigiri is wrapped in nori seaweed, and inside, you’ll find iburigakko—a smoked pickled vegetable from Akita Prefecture.

The flavor of the seaweed and the saltiness of the iburigakko provide a nice accent. It’s an exquisite combination that can only be tasted at MISOJYU.

The “Pickled Plum” onigiri , topped with ume plum paste, is one to enjoy for its sourness. You can taste the tartness of the pickled plum from the first bite.

Japanese shiso (perilla) leaves are sprinkled on the surface, allowing you to enjoy a refreshing flavor as well.
