The hotel’s most distinctive feature is its concept of “Socializing.” While traditionally meaning social interaction, here it’s redefined as “connecting with society purposefully and authentically.”

This philosophy is supported by five core conceptual pillars: Environment, Local First, Diversity, Wellness, and Culture. These values are woven into the hotel’s design and services, captivating travelers from around the globe since its opening.

Perfectly located for shopping and sightseeing

TRUNK(HOTEL) CAT STREET is situated in Jingumae, Shibuya—right in the heart of Cat Street. This prime location offers easy access to both Shibuya and Harajuku.

This area is now bustling with people, but when the hotel first opened, it was said that there were only a few shops and passersby.

Since the keyaki (zelkova tree) is the official tree of Shibuya Ward, it has also been adopted as the hotel’s symbol tree

Over time, TRUNK(HOTEL) CAT STREET became a catalyst for growth in the area. Today, the street is lined with apparel shops, cafes, and restaurants, and the hotel itself has become a symbol of the neighborhood.

The hotel’s striking design, inspired by geological layers and adorned with greenery, seamlessly blends into the urban landscape.

A lounge that reflects environmental awareness

As you step into the entrance, gazing up at the hotel’s symbolic zelkova tree, your eyes are immediately drawn to the artfully designed lounge. The space reflects one of the hotel’s key elements: Environment.

The lounge, which is open to non-guests, regularly hosts DJ events

First, the wood used in the pillars and walls stands out. Reclaimed and thinned wood, originally destined to be discarded, are used to create a vintage feel.

Looking at the furniture, the counter seats feature chairs made from upcycled wine corks. The lounge is filled with efforts towards environmental conservation and social contribution, all of which are harmoniously integrated.

Luxurious rooms for a unique stay

With only fifteen rooms, TRUNK(HOTEL) CAT STREET offers an intimate and luxurious experience. Each room is designed for comfort, with generous use of space and tailored features.

Kitchen and tableware are also fully stocked

The room items and amenities are all original creations developed from scratch. Here, you can also see efforts to promote environmental consciousness.

For example, the glasses are made from recycled glass created from used fluorescent light bulbs. The logo-branded mugs are made from clay created by crushing and repurposing used tableware collected from across the country.

The theme of “Local First” is also reflected in each item, with the bathroom shampoos made from the highest quality organic herbs sourced from Japan. The towels are made in Japan, with all processes, from sourcing organic cotton to sewing, carried out at domestic factories.

Locally supportive and sustainable shopping

Some of the items from the guest rooms introduced earlier can be purchased at the hotel’s adjacent concept shop, TRUNK(STORE).

Additionally, under the concept of “Local First,” the store offers seasonings selected from products originating in Tokyo and Shibuya, making them perfect for souvenirs.

In terms of groceries, the store incorporates not only this local prioritization approach but also many organic products, with a lineup that is kind to both the body and the environment.

In addition, there are also health products designed to relieve fatigue, which are great for travelers who have arrived after a long journey.

The selection focuses on products that combine the convenience and functionality of a convenience store, while emphasizing small-batch and limited production items.

Purchased food and drinks can also be brought into the lounge or public terrace

In other words, it also serves as an alternative to the mass consumption and production of convenience stores.

It’s a unique service that embodies the concept of ‘socializing’ and fits right in with the hotel’s core values.

Unique rentals for exploring Shibuya

Another unique service offered at TRUNK(HOTEL) CAT STREET is the rental of skateboards and bicycles. Both are available for free to guests.

The skateboards, reflecting the street culture of the vibrant Shibuya area, are from the brand SK8easy, created by photographer Mick Park.

On the underside of the deck, Park’s artwork is printed, making it valuable as a piece of art as well.

The bicycles are an original design from the hotel, made by upcycling old parts from discarded bicycles collected in Tokyo.

New tires and chains are used, ensuring high safety standards are maintained.
