“Shinjyuku honten Takano fruits parlour,” (referred to hereafter as “Shinjuku Takano”) one of Japan’s most renowned fruit parlors, has been serving multiple generations in Shinjuku since its establishment in 1926.
Their menu, featuring lavishly prepared colorful fruits, is really something to marvel at! The seasonal fruit sweets and the classic year-round options hold an enduring charm. The delicate yet bold fruit-cutting techniques are breathtaking to behold.
Savor a parfait with 13 different fruits!
Every dish at Shinjuku Takano is designed to bring joy and brightness to your experience. Since its establishment, the signature dish has been the “Fruit parfait.” Its luxurious presentation is sure to put a smile on your face!
“フルーツパフェ,” Fruits parfait 1,870 JPY (tax included)
This luxurious parfait features 13 different types of fruit, filled with seasonal fruits depending on the time of year. During the time of our visit in September, the parfait was loaded with bananas, melons, oranges, grapefruits, kiwis, pineapples, raspberries, blueberries, apples, dragon fruit, mangoes, watermelons, and strawberries.
Being able to enjoy all these at once makes it the pinnacle of fruit desserts.
As you enjoy the harmony of each fruit’s flavor, the parfait’s sherbet and ice cream emerge. Two types of sherbet and vanilla ice cream add a different layer of sweetness.
Hidden underneath is a jelly made with Cointreau, an orange-flavored liqueur, providing a refreshing finish to the parfait.
Indulging in such an abundance of delicious fruit is immensely satisfying!
“Shizuoka muskmelon parfait” is a luxury treat
Another standout is the “Shizuoka muskmelon parfait,” which leaves a lasting impression in a different way from the Fruits parfait. This parfait is generously filled with muskmelon.
“静岡県産マスクメロンパフェ,” Shizuoka muskmelon parfait 3,850 JPY (tax included)
The alternating design of melon pulp and skin is inspired by the traditional Japanese ichimatsu pattern, symbolizing prosperity and eternity, making it a lucky design.
The muskmelon bursts with juiciness and has a rich aroma. Just when you think you’ve reached the height of luxury, you realize there’s still more melony goodness to enjoy.
Enjoying the melon envelops you in a sense of bliss.
After savoring the melon itself, you’ll be captivated by the melon-flavored granité (a French frozen dessert) and sherbet, as well as the rich, creamy soft serve below. The granité offers a crunchy texture that carries the lingering melon flavor, while the soft serve refreshes your palate, concluding this dreamy experience.
The granita, a French ice dessert, offers a crunchy texture that carries the lingering melon flavor, while the soft serve refreshes your palate, concluding this dreamy experience.
Both the Fruits parfait and the Shizuoka muskmelon parfait are remarkable in how they transition from fruit to ice cream and sherbet, achieving a perfect balance of flavors. You can tell the attention to detail extends beyond the fruit itself to the overall presentation of the parfait.

There’s even more fruity deliciousness to enjoy
The “Pudding à la Mode” is another classic dish on the menu. While pudding à la mode is typically considered a children’s dessert in Japan, Shinjuku Takano’s version offers a sophisticated taste.
“プリン・ア・ラ・モード,” Pudding à la Mode 1,540 JPY (tax included)
The pudding, surrounded by fruit, is rich in vanilla aroma. The slight bitterness of the caramel sauce adds depth to the flavor.
This dish features a different combination of fruits from the Fruits parfait, with the pudding taking center stage. The fruit complements and highlights the pudding’s presence.
The Fruit Sandwich is not only delicious but also a beautiful and recommended sweet. Strawberries, kiwis, mangoes, and bananas are thinly sliced and sandwiched between slices of bread.
“フルーツサンドウィッチ,” Fruit Sandwich 1,540 JPY (tax included)
The whipped cream’s sweetness is subtle, yet the banana enhances its flavor, achieving a perfect balance with the bread.
The tartness of the strawberry adds a refreshing note to the cream. It’s a fascinating experience as the combination of fruit and whipped cream changes with each bite.
A continuously evolving menu
At Shinjuku Takano, there are numerous menu items that allow you to rediscover the rich flavors of fruit. Not only are the dishes all exquisite, but the fruit portions are large and quite filling.
Simply browsing the menu, which is available in English, Japanese, and other languages, is exciting on its own!
The restaurant’s mission of “providing delicious fruits that leave you full and happy” drives its menu, which they continuously refine and improve daily.
For this reason, their fruit-cutting techniques continue to evolve and develop.
You’ll definitely want to take your time as you enjoy these thoughtfully crafted dishes at Shinjuku Takano!
